About the Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care

We advocate for quality, compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness or injury. Beginning in 1986 we strived to promote hospice and palliative care, by becoming the first and only hospice and palliative care training provider in Hong Kong. In 1992, we established the first hospice hospital, Bradbury Hospice. Three years later, the Hospital Authority took up the management of Bradbury Hospice as an integral part of Hong Kong’s public healthcare system.

In 1997, we expanded the scope of our service by establishing the Jessie and Thomas Tam Centre, in which we offer free bereavement counselling and support services to people facing the loss of a loved one. Thanks to the Hong Kong SAR Government for granting a piece of land and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for funding the cost of building, construction of the Jockey Club Home for Hospice (JCHH) began in 2013. JCHH signifies another critical milestone of SPHC as it strives to introduce a modern, compassionate approach to hospice and palliative care while instilling hope and positivity to the patients and their loved ones. It is a hospice centre that offers a comprehensive range of services including inpatient service, home care, day care, palliative and bereavement support as well as training of healthcare professionals and volunteers on a systematic scale.

To further our cause, we reach out to the community and organize life and death education programmes regularly. We encourage people to live a full, positive life and face death with dignity and peace.
